Welcome to the first in our meet the team series. Today we’d like to introduce you to the lovely Avril.
You may have noticed we’ve been growing our team recently and Avril is one of our new colleagues, we’re delighted to welcome Avril to the team and share her story.
Avril chose a career in early learning and childcare to inspire, teach and help children to develop their skills for the future. She knows she’s made the right choice and says: “It is a very rewarding job where no two days and no two children are the same.”
We asked Avril what she thinks is best about working with us here at Flexible Childcare Services Scotland, here’s what she said:
“My favourite thing about working at Flexible Childcare Scotland is that it allows me to work around my family commitments. I never thought I would be able to find a job that is so suited to my family life and not only is it great for me, but by taking care of these children, I am allowing their parents and carers to do the same, which gives me a real sense of pride.”
We really believe that our flexibility model works for our team as well as for the children and families using our service. In fact, it works for all our stakeholders; children, families, the workforce and the community (it allows parents/carers to work the hours local businesses need them), and the Scottish Government (it helps towards successful achievement of the early year’s expansion plan). It’s a win, win model for all and Avril is certainly playing her part in bringing those wins to fruition.
Next, we asked Avril where she sees herself in 5 years’ time and we were really impressed with her ambitious response:
“In five years’ time I would like to hold an HNC and HND in childcare and be working towards an honours degree.” We love that commitment to ongoing learning and we’re prepared to support all our team in their continuing professional development.
Finally, we thought it would be fun to ask Avril to share three interesting things about herself. Here are her trio of facts:
- I have three children of my own, all girls!
- I enjoy singing and love a good musical!
- I love to travel. I have been to London, New York and Paris.
