Meet Amanda Scott – Childcare Practitioner in Dundee

What’s your Name?

I’m Amanda Scott and I’m a Childcare Practitioner working at Fintry Mains Childcare & Community Hub in Dundee, I work with the 0-2 year olds in the Willow Room.

What qualifications / how many years of experience do you have?

I don’t have any qualifications but I have been working here for 9 months and I’m learning so much on the job and from the rest of the team.

What does an average day look like and what types of activities do you do?

Making sure the little ones are cared for and helping them to thrive. We do a lot of out-door play and the little ones love playing with water. Messy play is probably one of their favourite activities and we all love a good story and a sing song.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing all the children happy when they are playing.

What made you choose a career in childcare?

I started helping my sister looking after her grandson that she has permanent custody of, and thought I would like to do this full time so I looked into it and started working in May and love it.

What’s TV series are you watching / what show would you recommend and why:

The Good Doctor

It is very interesting as it’s about a boy that has autism and becomes a surgeon and is very good at his job but with a lot of hurdles to get over while doing his job.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why:

I always wanted to be a maths teacher as I love working with numbers.
