Meet Liz Flight – Childcare Practitioner in Dundee

Hello, what’s your name?
Hi, I’m Liz Flight a Childcare Practitioner at Fintry Mains in Dundee. I work in the baby room for the 0-2 year olds. I qualified with an SVQ3 in 2020.

What does an average day look like and what types of activities do you do?
We like singing songs, going in the garden or going for a walk with the babies – it’s important for everyone to get outside and have a good play. But the children also like making playdough, cloud dough, painting pictures or drawing in side. It’s never a dull moment with the little ones!

Can you give me an example of some of the challenges you face and how you respond to them?
One of the greatest challenges are when the babies are upset but we’re there to give them plenty of cuddles and reassurance – they don’t stay sad for too long but it can be hard.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Being given the privilege to look after other people’s children and watching them grown from babies to toddlers.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
I always wanted to do something to care and look after people whether it was adult care or childcare – but I’m happy I entered into childcare – it is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
