Fiona Ednie

Head of Workforce Strategy and Regional Lead for Highland and Moray

With over 20 years’ experience in the childcare sector in Highland, a BA in Social Studies from the University of Strathclyde, as well as SVQ5 in Management, Fiona is a highly qualified Childcare Manager.

Fiona started as an Early Years Advisor with Care and Learning Alliance in 1998, until 2004 when she secured the Development Manager’s post to start up Direct Childcare as a separate organisation. After the setup of Smart Childcare in 2010, a commercial childcare social enterprise, she became the Executive Manager of both organisations, offering flexible, affordable childcare to fill the gaps in existing provision throughout Highland.

Being focussed on meeting these gaps in provision has led to the development of services specialising in the care of children with additional support needs both in group settings and the family home. These services will transfer into Flexible Childcare Services Scotland in the second half of 2019.

Fiona is exceptionally organised and manages the Inverness services with infectious passion and enthusiasm. As an animal lover, Fiona volunteers with Springer Spaniel Scotland and helps to re-home them (in addition to spoiling her own).

She volunteers in the coffee shop at Highland Hospice. When she’s not making a difference to the lives of people and animals, she loves foreign travel.
