Newly formed Scottish Charity receive double nomination at national Nursery Awards

Flexible Childcare Service Scotland (FCSS), a newly formed charity that delivers flexible childcare services in Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness, has been recognised by Nursery Management Today as a finalist in two categories at the Scottish NMT Awards 2019; the Nursery Training & Development Award and the Nursery Team Award.

The Nursery Training & Development Award recognises the commitment to training and developing staff, enhancing their skill sets and allowing them to provide the best possible service for the children in their care.

According to Susan McGhee, Director at FCSS, “We have made an organisational commitment to high quality training that supports our vision of “Creating flexibility in early learning and childcare for all children, families and communities across Scotland.” We have detailed training plans at all levels and a robust, effective staff development policy. We are committed to supporting children so that they thrive and get the best start in their lives.“

Maureen Rennie, Flexible Childcare Services Manager for Aberdeenshire said, “Many of the children we care for have additional support needs, or challenging family circumstances, all of our children and families have individual requirements and it is our responsibility to give every child an exciting and creative environment in which to grow and learn. Our training programme effectively supports our goal of creating accessible, high quality, flexible childcare for all children and families across Scotland.”

FCSS has also been nominated for the Nursery Team Award which recognises nursery teams that have ‘developed and maintained an excellent standard of childcare showing exceptional group values and a commitment to working together for the common good.’

With accreditation in Investors in People and as a Living Wage employer, FCSS continue to demonstrate its commitment to its team by providing a holistic work environment that allows team members to communicate, motivate and learn from one another.

According to Susan McGhee, “We share our knowledge and support each other in delivering best practice in everything we do. We are committed to reflective practice, striving for continual improvement and working together to deliver an exceptional childcare experience for the children and families using our service.”

FCSS’s commitment to their staff ensures that the children and families they support always receive the best possible care. As one family member explains:

“The flexibility of the FCSS system helps me as I only book childcare when I need it. That means that over the holidays I don’t have to pay for hours I don’t use. The staff are all very caring and engaging with the children, taking care of their individual needs, especially when, like my daughter, they have hard times adjusting.”

Winners of the Scottish NMT Nursery Awards 2019 will be presented with their trophies at the high-profile gala night held on Friday 30th August at the Hilton Glasgow Hotel, attended by approximately 400 guests.
