What’s your name?
Hello, I’m Laura McCafferty and I’m a trainee Childcare Practitioner at Fintry Mains in Dundee.
What age group and class / group do you work with?
I work with all of the children from birth to 5year olds – I’m in training so it’s important for me to get experience with all of the age groups within the nursery.
What does an average day look like and what types of activities do you do?
An average day is non-stop, making sure the children are engaged in age and stage appropriate activities. I also help with the children when they are playing outside and I help out at mealtimes.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Helping the children grow and learn
What made you choose a career in childcare?
After having my son, I decided I wanted to work with children and watch them grow and develop – it’s the best decision I’ve made. This is a great setting with some fantastic people (both the big ones and the little ones).
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
As a child I always wanted to be a hairdresser, I did pursue this for many years and also still do some hairdressing on the side but I’m so pleased I moved into childcare – this is certainly the place for me.
