Hi I’m Amy I’m one of the Senior Early Years Practitioners at Fintry Mains Childcare & Community Hub here in Dundee.
What qualifications / how many years of experience do you have:
I have an SVQ3 and I’ve worked in the sector for 9 years. I over see the 3-5s room and sometimes support the 2-3s.
What does an average day look like and what types of activities do you do:
I support the team to ensure the room runs seamlessly. I’m involved in all of the tasks in the room I also have to ensure all the paperwork, including planning, observations, care plans and risk assessments are all in order and up to date. In the 3-5 room we focus on child led leaning and I feel this approach is a very successful method of learning. It highlights the importance of the children’s choices and it allows their voice to be heard this gives them confidence and helps them to develop their own learning journey at their own pace.
What is the most rewarding part of your job:
The most rewarding part of my job is watching the children grow and helping them to achieve their goals and milestones.
What made you choose a career in childcare:
I always wanted to work in childcare – I have a strong passion for the early years sector and I’m lucky that I love my job – it’s so rewarding.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why:
When I was younger I always wanted to be a millionaire….there’s still time! I hope!
