Balance bike donation thanks to Early Rider

Our Cummings Park Nursery has received a generous donation of 8 balance bikes thanks to Early Rider’s More Kids Ride Fund.

Early Rider is a British company that designs and sells bikes and balance bikes specifically for children from 12 months to 11 years old. Each year they donate profits to their More Kids Ride fund which then donates bikes to community groups, riding schools and youth focused charities.

According to Amy Simpson, Manager at Cummings Park,

“We are absolutely delighted to have received these fantastic balance bikes from Early Rider, many of the children who attend our nursery don’t have access to an outside area at home, never mind a bike to play on and these bikes will give them an opportunity to learn to ride bikes in the safety of our setting. As well as giving them a great opportunity to spend more time in the outdoors, cycling helps build gross motor skills, physical endurance and gives the children a sense of independence.”

According to Amy, when the bikes arrived the children were invited to help unbox and assemble the bikes — an experience that in itself provided a valuable opportunity for engagement, curiosity, and a sense of ownership over their new equipment.

Balance bikes offer significant developmental benefits for young children. Regular use supports the growth of physical coordination, balance, and gross motor skills, all of which are fundamental to children’s overall health and physical literacy. Alongside these physical benefits, the bikes provide an excellent context for developing key social skills, including sharing, patience, and turn-taking — all of which are central to children’s personal and social development in the early years.

We are extremely grateful to Early Rider for their generosity and commitment to supporting the children in our care. Their donation will enrich our outdoor provision and enable us to offer even greater opportunities for active, purposeful play.

We look forward to observing the children grow in confidence and independence as they enjoy their new bikes in the months ahead.
