Our day at EYS18

“High quality early learning and childcare: What does it look like?”

A big question, a question with lots of possible answers and a question that’s critical to achieving our nation’s goal to be the best place to grow up.

This question formed the theme of the Early Years Scotland annual conference which took place in Glasgow on Saturday. Flexible Childcare Services Scotland was represented at the conference by our Ops Director, Susan McGhee and the Manager, Lesley Tait and Lead Practitioner, Lynda Young from our Dundee service.

Why do our team give up their Saturday to attend a work event? They do it because they’re committed to quality. We regularly reflect on our service delivery and we’re confident we’re doing a good job but we’re also very conscious of how quickly things move and change in the Early Years sector. We’re determined to keep our practice at the highest possible level, we aim to deliver an innovative, child led service that is truly flexible, affordable and accessible to all.

To achieve this it’s important that we reflect on our service delivery, looking inwards at what we are doing well, what we can do to make things even better and how we can measure and record our progress.

It’s also vitally important that we look outwards, attending events with colleagues and peers to support and challenge our practice. Looking outwards by discussing service delivery, theory and best practice, sharing examples and challenging our reasoning can only drive up standards and help us reach our goals as a setting, a sector and even a nation.

The packed conference room at the #EYS18 event is testament to the passion and commitment of the early years workforce to deliver high quality early learning and childcare. Our team are proud to be part of that workforce and we’re confident that with our team and the hundreds more like them around the country all working to deliver a wonderful early years experience Scotland’s status as the best place to grow up is on solid ground.

Thank you to Early Years Scotland for hosting a great event…the whole room doing “Baby Shark” was definitely a memorable moment!

Thanks also to the exhibitors and sponsors, the goodie bags and freebies were fab.
